Valery Erichev began his professional career as an ophthalmologist in 1971 in Malaya Vishera Central Local Hospital (Novgorod region).
In 1975 he entered the residency at the Helmholtz Moscow Research Institute of Eye Diseases, at which he assumed the leadership over the Glaucoma Department in 1989 and headed it till 2007.
In 2001 V.P. Erichev founded the research and clinically oriented Glaucoma journal, which initially was a supplement to the Russkiy oftal'mologicheskiy zhurnal [Russian Ophthalmological Journal] and became independent media in 2002.
Since 2007 and till present V.P. Erichev has been working in the Research Institute of Eye Diseases of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2009 he was elected the deputy director for science and also the head of the Glaucoma Department.
V.P. Erichev is an author of more than 320 scientific publications. A total of 35 doctoral and 5 habilitation theses were defended under his scientific supervision.
